Marketing

 

PRS 101 – Presentations (detailed outline)

 

The Presentations course provides an introduction to presentation best practices, from preparation to delivery. In the process, students will learn how to use Microsoft® Powerpoint™ to assemble and produce professional presentations.

 

MKT 101 – Ethical marketing principles

 

The basics of marketing are covered in this course from an ethical best practices perspective. Based on case studies from multiple industries, students are introduced to product and service description, positioning, pricing, and promotion; marketing campaign planning and execution; and marketing channels and tools.

 

MKT 102 –Marketing best practices

 

In this core marketing course, the fundamentals of marketing are covered in detail. The course looks at traditional marketing best practices, as well as emerging drivers, especially Internet marketing. Various success stories are used to illustrate successful marketing, brand, and image approaches. Business issues associated with marketing are also addressed, as well as the interaction between marketing and sales in for-profit organizations. Marketing for non-profits is covered as well.

 

MKT 103 – Advertising

 

The MKT 103 – Advertising course covers, compares, and contrasts the various advertising channels used for marketing campaigns in different media. Presentation, format, and messaging are included in the discussion.

 

MKT 104 – Internet marketing

 

This course covers the ins and outs of Internet marketing, including lead generation, generating and monetizing Internet traffic through pay-per-click campaigns and search engine optimization.

 

MKT 105 – Viral marketing

 

Viral marketing covers the new-media Internet marketing opportunities, from social and professional networking websites to video streaming sites and options.

 

MKT 106 – Public relations

 

Public relations, from customer relationship management, to press releases, to corporate and sales events, to trade show planning and execution, to contributions to community causes, etc. are the main subjects of this course.

 

SAL 101 – Sales fundamentals

 

Key principles of successful sales best practices are covered in this introductory course. Different sales roles and approaches are discussed, as well as telephone and face-to-face techniques for maximizing communications effectiveness with prospects and customers.

 

Business management

 

BUS 101 – Office management (detailed outline)

 

This introductory course covers various aspects of office record keeping (manual and digital); information management and security; fundamentals of communication; supervisor interaction; telephone and email etiquette; basic project management; and attention to external requirements, e.g. licenses etc.

 

BUS 102 – Ethical management principles

 

With a focus on ethics, this course introduces students to management practices and processes, with a focus on supervisory and middle management functions. Students learn about the various tasks managers execute, as well as the different challenges they face in their interactions with other stakeholders, including direct reports.

 

BUS 103 – Business management best practices

 

Core business processes and practices are covered in this course in detail, from an American perspective. These include organizational development; leadership; risk management; process management and automation; business development; third party relationships; management finance; regulatory requirements; and competitive analysis.

 

ACC 101 – Financial accounting (detailed outline)

 

This introductory accounting course covers the main elements of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for small- and medium-size business accounting, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, transactions, and account transaction reconciliation.

 

ACC 102 – Cost acounting

 

This course focuses on cost accounting topics, such as activity-based costing; break-even point; overhead calculations; and standard costing.

 

ACC 103 – Advanced accounting

 

Advanced accounting covers a broad range of accounting topics, including accounts payable and receivable; expensing bad debts; dealing with adjustments; reports; bank reconciliation; cash flow statements; depreciation; debits and credits; financial ratios; present value, future value; inventory management; cost of goods sold; payroll; annuities; stocks; and an introduction to taxes.

 

ACC 104 – The many uses of Microsoft Excel

 

As a thorough introduction to Microsoft Excel, this course emphasizes the many uses of Excel, with a focus on its accounting and financial strengths.

 

FIN 101 – Principles of finance

 

This course provides an introduction to the theory, the methods, and the concerns of finance in a corporation. The main topics are: the time value of money; budgeting methods; uncertainty in the context of risk and return; financial markets, securities, and instruments; capitalization; dividends; and financial decision-making.

 

Project management

 

PMP 101 – Project planning fundamentals (detailed outline)

 

This introduction to project management course provides students with a practical overview of the philosophy and practices of good project management for small- and medium-size projects. Gantt charts are explained in detail and network charts previewed.

 

PMP 102 – Project planning best practices

 

This core project management course accentuates excellence in planning practices across the life cycle of a typical medium- or larger-size project. All modern concepts of effective project management are covered and illustrated using Microsoft® Project™. Advanced approaches like time boxing and agile methods are also addressed.

 

PMP 103 – Project control

 

This course focuses on the activities that must take place in the course of a project, from milestone tracking, to base line comparisons, to corrections, to effective reporting.

 

PMP 104 – Project management with Microsoft Project

Microsoft Project is the de facto standard across many industries for managing small to large projects. While far from the only available software application available for the task, Microsoft Projects knowledge translates to excellent credibility for students who complete this course. All the major features in MS Project are covered in this course. (Having Microsoft Project installed is a course requirement.)
