What it takes

Succeeding at Belair Online takes a mature commitment to doing the work: we believe that our students deserve tough, quality instruction based on best-of-class academic standards.

In order to successfully complete online courses at Belair Online, you and your computer need to meet a set of minimum requirements:

You

  • At least 12-15 hours of time available per course week to complete work and interact online.  (A normal course is officially 48 hours long over six weeks.)
  • Ability to set aside blocks of undisturbed time of at least two hours at a time.
  • Commitment to learning, to doing the best work you can, to interacting with your classmates and the professor online, and to completing reading and writing assignments on time and as specified.
Requirements for You and Your Computer

 Your computer

  • Computer running at least Microsoft Windows XP
    • An Apple Mac will typically work, too, but you will have to substitute appropriate applications for the ones required on the Windows platform.
    • Note that the information technology courses that focus on Microsoft .NET technology require a Microsoft Windows-based system.
  • Stable, reliable broadband/high-speed Internet connection
    • You need to have control over browser settings.
  • Backup storage: while not formally required, your school work should be backed up
    • Online systems are not a 100%-reliable: students are required to always keep a backup copy of their submissions, in case re-submission becomes necessary.
